Pingback: Outdoor Access in MA | Rest. Stop. Ranch
Marymac – how lovely this is. And how I could have used it as I took care of my aging parents. I was exhausted on all fronts. I will definitely be referring people to your site. It’s such good work. Thank you – thank you. OH, and I need a picture of your beamish face somewhere on this site. Where is it? Seriously.

we have a common friend thru both our churches. jean perreault is my very dearest friend who has also become friends of my church, holy spirit fellowship in long beach, ca.
she suggested your sight and for that i am truly greatful. i am becoming a caregiver again, not my mother this time but my beloved wife, carole. she has now been on dialysis for a year, and has other medical problems also.
we knew all of this would change our lives but as always please God, not this much. i do not want to lose her in any way.
i am inspired by your site and the way jean talks about you. she promises she will attend your next open house for both of us.
thank you so much for all you do and all your inspirations. i will get thru this, and have many people including you to thank.

Greetings Ms. Mac! Have you learned about easy homemade bird feeders? Mom and I used to do it when I was a kid. You fill a coffee can (or similar sized metal can) with birdseed and set it aside, under the sink or in the garage or somewhere out of the way. Then, every time you have a bit of extra fat from cooking, like bacon grease, you pour that fat into your bird seed can. (Do not use Crisco, it’s not good for the birds… tho I imagine Crisco does not appear often on your menu! LOL)
After awhile the can fills with the seed/fat mixture. Make sure it’s good and cold (solid) and use a can opener to cut out the bottom of the can. Run a long bit of twine or string thru the side by tying it to a pencil or crochet hook, etc. and shoving it thru the mixture, along the metal side. Now the can is on its side with a string you can use to tie it to a tree branch. Then poke a pencil or twig or something into the open ends so the birds can get started. After awhile they’ll just hop right into the empty edge of the can and the perch won’t be needed.
Avoid whole sunflower seeds, as the shells make a huge mess. Offer shelled sunflower seeds or seeds without a shell. We had the best luck with shelled sunflower seeds, for attracting colorful songbirds. My folks’ favorite were the cardinals. When Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal were spotted, everyone dropped everything to watch. And of course, the squirrels will love this stuff too. Just a little something easy and fun to fill your sunny winter days on the ranch.
Affectionately, Michelle ;o)
Mary, your web site is amazing. You are helping so many people. Keep up the good work
I guess it would depend on how healthy the old plant was…did it spawn hearty new seedlings destined to become healthy plants able to live and thrive on their own or are these seedlings nothing more than sucker plants that will never become more than a parasite to the original????
Mary,
We met in Toronto and enjoyed a few moments of conversation beside the croquet court
I am inspired by your website and the wonderful work you are offering to caregivers.
I look forward to the next rest-stop-weekly
In my busy work as a physician, these words and practices are equally beneficial.
thanks and warm regards,
genie
Mary – Thank you for the beautiful pictures to brighten my day, especially today’s !
Truely, the photos are a beautiful inspiration. Today is gloomy weather wise and this flowering dogwood was a site that warmed my heart and soul. Your photos are so beautiful and the words that support them are inspiring. Let’s see a “production” combing the two. Hugs to Mary and Karl for an amazing progect.
The retreat at Glastonbury Abby sounded wonderful. Many wonderful tools that work. My heart is smiling at the picture of Karl. Today, Victoria Day in the place called Canada, my body was moving soil via wheelbarrow. Friends were seeding as well. Sure wish I had a contraption like Karl ‘s for moving earth. I felt so connected being with the soil just like I do with your wonderful pictures and positive sharings. Thanks.
enjoying summer by dancing in the park and paddling on the rivers…love this time of year in canada. the photos are splendid…light on white…devine on the vine…
What a wonderful sacred space you both are providing for others to connect with each other and their wonderful Mother Earth.
