Thursdays, 9a-12p, Volunteers Get Dirty in the Garden
Volunteers age 14+ and all abilities are welcome to join our “Get Dirty in the Garden” team including Teachers, Learners, and Observers. March through November, we meet once a week, Thursday morning, to help build and maintain the wheelchair-accessible gardens. This is our first year offering a weekly therapeutic gardening program. The regular team includes retired garden ladies, and individuals and staff from two day programs (NE ARC and Bridgewell). Jean DiVincenzo and Bruce Piper, landscape professionals, drop in when they have time. Edith Heyck manages the the three hour session and takes care that all participants are enjoying themselves as teachers, learners, or observers, in the outdoors. Participants tend to arrive and depart at different times during the 3-hour window. For example, most of the retired ladies arrive at 9am and work in the garden for 90 minutes. At 10am or 10:30am the day program participants arrive, will work towards a goal for 20 minutes to 60 minutes, then have a snack. Volunteers contribute by filling bird feeders, weeding and watering the gardens, maintaining and building trails. If you are interested in joining us, simply e-mail email@example.com, call 978-887-4202, or drop by the program to say hi and pick up a volunteer application.
